Travel

Students will be studying documenting and mapping three projects sites. October 26-28 students will travel with studio professors to visit Marfa and project sites in Presidio and Big Bend. Though travel can not be required it is strongly suggested students plan to attend this trip as research conducted on site will be critical to completing the final phase of your projects.

On Friday, October 26 we will meet at 10am under the shade structure in Marfa, Texas.

Students are welcome to come out Thursday night before or drive in the morning. ***Please be aware Marfa is CST, so there is a 1 hour time change. If you want to get to Marfa by 10am you must leave El Paso by 6am.

Please bring cash for all fees

Please be prepared for cold nights, upper 40's and warm days, low 90's, go to Big Bend National Park website to inform you about park information, rules, and safety.

Bring site documentation material, drawing materials and cameras

Friday, October 26
6am-leave El Paso
*as you approach Valentine, 30 mins after Van Horn and 30 mins before Marfa on Highway 90, stop to see Prada Marfa

10am- meet in Marfa under shade structure (Highland Ave & El Paso St.)
11-1pm- Chinati Foundation tour ($10 each)
1-3pm- lunch and hotel/camping check in
3 pm- Judd Foundation tour ($15 each)
5 pm- tour at Ballroom Marfa
6pm- visit to artist Charles Mary Kubrichts studio
7pm- dinner
8:30pm- Star Party at McDonald Observatory *optional ($12 each)

Saturday, October 27
8am- Meet under shade structure, drive to Presidio
9am-12 pm- visit project site in Presidio, meet with Presidio resident Terry Bishop
12pm- drive to Big Bend National Park ($20 per vehicle)
1pm- lunch in Terlingua or Chisos Basin, drive to Rio Grande Village
3pm- Required hike: Boquillas Canyon Trail (1.2 miles round-trip)
*optional visit Hot Springs 
6pm-  Everyone free to stay at campsite, or leave park and stay in Terlingua, Alpine or back to El Paso
