Start checking out books!
You all have the ability to check out books through inter-library loan, meaning you have access to books at the Lubbock architecture library. Books will be mailed to our campus in El Paso. You also can access electronic journals and search the Avery Index for architecture periodicals. Start checking out books from our required and recommended reading lists as well as books related to your own projects. I also suggest you visit the Architecture Library when you go up to Lubbock next weekend.

For Friday, Sept. 7
Read Atlas of Novel Tectonics by Reiser + Umemoto (entire book)
Submit 2 printed paragraph long questions from the reading at the start of class.

Construct 10 (5 for each building) models at the same size, with the same material and same
requirements as previous study models. In this iteration study the termination of structural members. Thus, rather than stopping at a wall, floor plate or ground you will demonstrate the connection through.
*Piano wire- many of you are working with cable systems, please consider using a closer representation of this material. Hal's Hobby Warehouse on Lee Trevino sells Piano Wire. You don't want to use wire that has been rolled as it will curl, rather you can buy small gauge in straight lengths, easy to cut and control in your models.
